This artists’ book has come from a collaboration between two book artists with different backgrounds. Molly Coy (artist) and Claire Bolton (letterpress printer) both enthused by wonderful local landscapes. Serendipity brought them both to live in the small town of Cowaramup in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. This was a book waiting to happen - a marriage of complimentary skills and an abundance of creative ideas. Their starting point was to integrate text and image.
Since the nature of any environment is both ordered and spontaneous it seemed the built book form was a metaphor of these natural elements. Using traditional hand-sewn signature format reflects the tension and repetitions of nature, whilst selection of varied surfaces, weight and decorative techniques reflect the energy and diversity. This form is both explorative, layered and revealing to let the images incorporate the words and the words become a part of the image. Designed in 5 sections, each one reflecting different aspects of the landscapes in the beautiful south-west. These hand-crafted landscape pages are printed on a variety of papers, using many different illustrative techniques; collagraph, etchings, linocuts, leaf prints, metal and wood type (both printed and blind embossed) with hand-painted pages, all combining to give a rich indulgence of visual experience and textures.
A limited and numbered edition of 12 copies, signature sewn and bound in full leather presented in a wrap case. 2 only available.
